Seattle, Washington, also known as the Emerald City, is an ideal destination for solo travelers and families who enjoy a vibrant mix of nature, history, art, food, and culture. The city, considered to be the largest in the Pacific Northwest, is interestingly sandwiched between several amazing bodies of water, including Lake Union and Puget Sound.

Nature and outdoor activity enthusiasts will surely appreciate the amazing parks, gardens, and arboretums dotting the city. These parks offer good hiking, biking, bird-watching, and camping opportunities, and spectacular sceneries and views of the Cascade and Olympic Mountains.

Seattle downtown is another must see destination. Columbia Center, Pike Market, the Aquarium, Art Museum, Central Library and other interesting places can be found in the downtown area. Historical Pike Market is a must see attraction for its fresh seafood market, good eats, and local crafts. The Space Needle and the Seattle Center, iconic landmarks of the city, are located northwest of downtown and accessible via the Seattle Center Monorail.

Ride the Ducks is an interesting 90 minute tour on an amphibious vehicle, which traverses through downtown and into nearby Lake Union. Other local tours focus on Seattle’s historical past like the Underground Tour, which takes visitors below Pioneer Square for a taste of Old Seattle.

Seattle has plenty of attractions for the whole family to enjoy. Start your visit off right with the Space Needle. Built for the 1962 World’s Fair, the needle is 605 feet tall and will give you a magnificent view of the city below. Stop in for a bite to eat at the Sky City Restaurant, a unique, rotating eatery located 500 feet up.

The Seattle Aquarium is another place you don’t want to miss. See otters, seals, and a Giant Pacific Octopus up close! Enter the Underwater Dome, a 400,000 gallon fish tank, filled with a colorful array of underwater life. Watch live dives and feedings daily.

Visit graves of the famous Bruce and Brandon Lee, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. If oddities excite you, you won’t want to miss the Fremont Troll. Built under the Aurora bridge, the troll was constructed in 1989 as a kind of halloween decoration. It still remains there today.

Seattle is also home to the original Starbuck’s Cafe. Built in 1971, the original building remains as it was built. Enjoy some history and a cup of coffee while you relax.

Seattle is full of history, tours and attractions that will make your visit fantastic.

Seattle, Washington, the largest and northernmost city in the lower 48, has plenty of sites to see and cultures to experience. Since it is such a large city, daily tours are accessible to help you see the best and brightest sights Seattle has to offer.

Let’s Tour Seattle is one such company that offers to take you throughout the city and explain the history behind some of Seattle’s more famous sights. Take a trip to Seattle’s Pike Place Market to pick up some fresh seafood and enjoy Seattle’s fishing community. Once you’re done there, visit the Space Needle to get a bird’s eye view of Seattle at night time.

The next morning, travel to Seattle’s waterfront and take a scenic cruise along the shore line while hearing about the vast history of Seattle’s fishermen and native peoples. Once finished, travel all over the city visiting Seattle’s Chinatown, Pioneer Square, Aboretum, and the Fremont Troll.

Before you leave, take one last trip to see Seattle’s amazing floating bridges-which are bridges nestled on water. There are also many floating homes that are beautiful to catch at sunset.

Seattle, Washington is very diverse and has many attractions, so sometimes it’s difficult to decide what all to do and where all to visit while you’re there. The Seattle Children’s Theatre is one place you must visit if you are going on vacation as a family. They feature wonderful plays written especially for children of all ages to enjoy with their families. You don’t want your husband to feel left out, so another place on your agenda is one or all of the three of the great golf courses in Seattle. With attractive landscaping and stunning scenery all year long, Seattle has some of the best golf courses in the United States. And, because it’s important that you have a great time while on vacation, don’t forget to visit the Frye Art Museum. This museum has a massive collection of German and Austrian art, including sculptures and representational paintings. Hundreds of the paintings are actually by the owners of the Frye Art Museum!Seattle, Washington has something for the whole family to enjoy and create unforgettable memories together.

If you want to create a calendar/plan for the New Year to check out some of the city’s most popular artwalks we provide the following broad brush stroke for you to use how you will (and we hope you use it a lot!).

Ballard Artwalk (Second Saturday every month) let’s you explore some of the best Ballard galleries and businesses as they stay open late for this monthly event to showcase artists. It’s great fun and several establishments offer appetizers and drinks!Belltown Artwalk (Third Thursday every month) is home to many unique galleries and other venues such as food and music all set in a colorful neighborhood. Visit galleries for coupons that can be used at many of the area’s popular restaurants and bars.Fremont Artwalk (First Friday every month) is Seattle’s most free-spirited art community which has long been known as the center of Seattle’s art pulse. Fremont’s galleries, shops and restaurants are crowded with people looking for something new and finding just that via exciting art representing an eclectic mix of styles from artists both local and worldwide.Pioneer Square (First Thursday every month) has provided a haven for gallery owners and artists since the early 1960s and is at the center of Seattle’s art scene today. The Art Walk in Pioneer Square is enhanced by the dozens of public art installations that can be found when walking between galleries. First Thursday started in 1981 and has now evolved into a beloved fixture on the local arts calendar.

There are more, of course; we mention these only to whet your appetite and get you out to start exploring. The bottom line is that Seattle is chock-full of art just keep your eyes open and you’ll happen upon it; that’s one of the beauties of this great city.

Relocation can be stressful, there’s no doubt about it. And when you add children and their education to the equation, the stress seems to increase exponentially.Take a step back and relax.Following is a quick checklist to help you keep information organized so you can make the best decision after visiting a few different schools.

Ask yourself some serious questions before you even start the evaluation process. Examine what you believe the school should provide, what your goals are for your child, what your child’s goals are for him/herself, what extra-curricular activities are important, and how important it is that your values blend with those that a specific school teaches.

When physically visiting the schools, what are your first impressions? Make sure you notice how adults treat the students, and how the students interact with adults. Also keep an eye open to see whether or not disciplinary rules are actually enforced and if so, how?

What are some of the school’s special programs? Are there several that you think your child will benefit from and find interesting at the same time?

If you can witness an actual classroom setting, pay attention to things like class size, desk arrangement, whether there is a structure (organization) that is clearly evident, and whether the materials are current.

Outside of the classroom take notice of things like level of supervision in the halls and outside areas, whether the restrooms are clean and private, and whether or not there are security guards on premises.

On top of these observations you are within your rights to ask specific questions such as: what is the school’s philosophy, or what are the school’s objectives and plans to attain educational excellence? Not to be clich, but information is power. So to power yourself during this transition period, make sure you’re armed with the information you need to make the right decision.

If you’re freshly relocated to Seattle you just might be looking for some fun things to experience and explore.Following is a list of some of the most popular options.Space Needle is an icon from the 1962 World’s Fair and is a mainstay of Seattle sight-seeing since it is unarguably its most noteworthy visual symbol. Enjoy the 360-degree view on the observation deck or from the Sky City restaurant either way it’s a “must see” if you’re going to call Seattle home.Seattle by Foot allows you to enjoy a unique walking tour of the Emerald City as you experience some of its local charm that could not be experienced any other way. And since you’re going to be calling Seattle “home,” there’s no better way to put your stamp on your new city than to pound its pavement!Pike Place is an open air shopping market and another Seattle “must do” since it is a local favorite as well as a tourist favorite. Probably most famous for its fish market, it also offers produce, retail shops, restaurants and cafes. Those who visit it describe is simply as an “amazing place.”Washington Park Arboretum is a 230 acre nature-lover’s delight with 4,000 species of trees and other plants as well as canoeing and kayaking (two local activities that rank high on the “favorites” list). Visitors to the arboretum find it “relaxing, gorgeous, and free,” three things that make any fun thing to do even more fun!Pioneer Square National Historic District features 88 acres of wonderfully restored architecture from the mid-1800s and includes some Second Renaissance-Revival, Beaux-Arts Classical, and Richardsonian-Romanesque styles. Home to nearby Qwest Field, the area also offers boutiques, art galleries, cafes, hotels, bars, and nightlife.Seattle Aquarium is the 7th largest US aquarium (based on attendance) and its collection of species is housed within six main exhibits: Window on Washington Waters, Life on the Edge, Pacific Coral Reef, Puget Sound Fish and Dome Room, Puget Sound Orcas Family Activity Center, and Marine Mammals.Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Asian Art Museum are your places to go if you want to get up close and personal with art from America, Europe, Japan, Korea, China, or Africa (to name a few collections). The museum houses over 150 works from across cultures that make a connection between past and present.Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park (located in the Pioneer Square National Historic District) this site provides an insight into the stories and history that surrounded the 1897-98 stampede to the Yukon gold fields and the role Seattle played in this event.Seahawk Football Games at Qwest Field (located just south of Pioneer Square) are always a great way to get a feel for this vital city, especially when you can watch the game and see snow capped mountains at the same time!Woodland Park Zoo has been called “one of the finest zoos in the world” due to its habitats with 1100 animals and award-winning naturalistic environments for them to enjoy.

It can be tough moving to a new city or state, and it can be even tougher trying to determine which neighborhood is best suited to your needs, especially if things like education and health care are a factor. Here are a few suburban gems of Seattle that might help in the decision-making process:Kenmore is located on stunning Lake Washington and features parks, an 18-mile paved trail, award-winning businesses and has a highly recognized school district. Kenmore itself has several neighborhoods which include Arrowhead, Inglewood, and Northlake Terrace.Bellevue is home to a park system that encompasses 2500 acres and one of the best school systems in the state both of which make this urban neighborhood one of the most popular in King County. Bellevue’s downtown is ranked as the second largest in Washington and the city is the sixth wealthiest of Washington’s 522 communities.Mercer Island (which is a true island community on Lake Washington) is ranked extremely high in categories such as schools, crime, and easy commute; but because the median home price is just a whisper away from a million dollars, it loses some of its desirability.Shoreline has been named Best Neighborhood by Seattle magazine since the city has a strong reputation for excellent schools, a wide range of parks, and is predominantly single-family residential. The greater Seattle area has a lot to offer and the above are but a small sampling of the many desirable areas to consider if relocating to the area.
